PEOs and POs for Graduate Programme:

Programme Educational Objectives:

The following are the PEO’s set by the department:

I. Graduate will have in-depth knowledge of Metallurgy and Materials Science aspects such as scientific principles of fabrication, phase transformations, mechanical treatment, heat treatment, structure-property correlations and service behavior of various types of materials necessary to formulate, solve and analyze critical engineering problems.

II. Graduate will be able to make a successful career in metallurgical and manufacturing industry, academics, research and development that meet the needs of Indian and multinational companies.

III. Graduate will be capable of solving unfamiliar problems through literature survey, deciding a suitable research methodology and conducting interdisciplinary/collaborative-multidisciplinary scientific research as per the need.

IV. Graduate will achieve the art of reflective learning, build hands-on experimental skills, and become familiar with modern engineering software tools and equipments and able to work independently or as a part of a team for successful project implementations in his/her professional life.

V. Graduate will acquire leadership qualities, techno-economical and social considerations, an aptitude for life-long learning, and get introduced to professional ethics and codes. Graduate will develop the ability to communicate technical information in both written and oral form.

 

Programme Outcomes:

 

Metallurgy and Materials Science Graduate will

a) demonstrate basic knowledge in mathematics, science and engineering.

b) demonstrate the ability to design and conduct experiments, interpret and analyze data, and report results.

c) demonstrate the ability to perform experiments in metallurgy, characterization and proper material selection.

d) demonstrate the ability to function on engineering and science laboratory teams, as well as on multidisciplinary projects.

e) demonstrate the ability to identify, formulate and solve metallurgy and material science problems.

f) demonstrate an understanding of their professional and ethical responsibilities.

g) be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.

h) have the confidence to apply engineering solutions in global and societal context.

i) be capable of self education and clearly understand the value of lifelong learning.

j) be broadly educated and will have an understanding of the impact of engineering on society with awareness of project management and finance related issues.

k) be familiar with modern engineering software tools and equipment to analyze metallurgy and materials science problems.
