Sir Visveshvaraya Memorial Competition.

The Sir Visveshvaraya Memorial Competition, the flagship annual event of Debate and Quiz club was held on 4th and 5th February 2017. Over 400 Participants from the entire country participated.

It was organised in English and Marathi on a broad range of topics like Education, Economics, Politics, and Feminism etc. The Whole competition was divided into three sections English, Marathi and Quiz. The English Section organised debates based on the modified Oxford Format. Best debaters from all over India contended to win the prestigious Competition. It had 3 preliminary rounds on 4th of February. The Quarter final, Semis, and Finals were held on 5th of Feb. Mohit Gauri and Ziauddin Sherkar from ILS College won the Debate.

The Marathi section organised three events - Elocution, Conventional Debate, and Power Point Presentation. First round of Elocution and Powerpoint Presentation were held on the first day. The Debate and Elocution Finals were held on the next day. Elocution was won by Jayantkumar Katkar and Fergusson College won the College Cup in Elocution. Aditya Kulkarni won the Debate competition and the College Cup was won by Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth. Prakash Shinde of COEP won the heart of Judges in the Power Point Presentation.

The Debate Club Quiz Club saw participation from over 20 Schools in the City. As a part of Social Outreach, students from weaker sections of society also took part in the quiz with the help of Teach For India. Many of them did exceptionally well. We just need to nurture their talent. Rutwik and Aditya from Abhinav Vidyalaya were winners of the quiz.

The Chief guest for closing ceremony was renowned Caricaturist Mr. Mangesh Tendulkar who enthralled the audience by drawing two caricatures live; one of Late Shiv Sena Supremo Shri Balasaheb Thakre and another of Dhananjay Jagtap, Secretary of Debate and Quiz Club.
