The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1960. The department is situated on the north campus of the institute having the nice view of river Mula Mutha.
To cater to the needs of different Engineering branches we have a young and enthusiastic faculty consisting of eleven assistant professors and an associate professor & have good infrastructure including 24 hours internet facility. Mathematics is the backbone of all Engineering Sciences. Hence a lot of stress is given on Mathematics in Engineering education. Engineering Mathematics is taught at first and second year of B.Tech degree course as well as for M.Tech. course. Institute level open elective courses for UG and PG like Complex analysis, Linear algebra, Number theory, Group theory, Advance course in differential equations also runs by Mathematics Department.
Research on various aspects of Graph theory, Matroid theory, Lattice theory, commutative algebra, difference equations, coding theory with pure and Engineering applications are carried out by the faculties. Our vision is to develop the department as a research center for pure and applied mathematics with applications to Engineering. There are around 20 publications at national and international levels on the credit of department faculty.
