Dr. Atul Bansilal Patil

Dr. Atul Patil works as Assistant Professor of Communication Skills at the College of Engineering Pune (COEP). Prior to this job, he worked at the English Language Teaching Institute of Symbiosis (ELTIS) as a Lecturer and Senior Co-ordinator for 6 years. He also worked in industry for a year in a US-based document creation company as a Validator (Quality Control department). He worked at the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Chair, Savitraibai Phule Pune University and for the Penn-in-India, study abroad programme of the University of Pennsylvania, USA. He holds a Ph.D. in English from Symbiosis International University on ‘Developing Computer-based Activities for the Teaching and Testing of Listening and Speaking Skills’.

Dr. Patil is a Member on the Board of Studies for the Faculty of Humanities at Symbiosis International University, as well as for the Faculty of Sciences and Humanities at Rajarambapu Institute of Technology, Sangli. He is a recipient of the first Rising Star Award of ELTIS, Symbiosis. He is a Member on the panel of experts for the international online journal called Spark and a prestigious member on the Editorial Board of the International Research Journal of India and other. He is a member on the CSR Sub-committee of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Pune. He is associated with ELT Weekly, WizIQ and AsiaCALL. He has conducted several workshops for students, teachers and working professionals. He has presented papers at national and international conferences and was the Conference Co-ordinator at Symbiosis for its three national conferences. He is a Faculty In-charge of the Language Laboratory and Personality Development Club at COEP.

Dr. Patil is a Certified Trainer and Speaking Examiner for the Cambridge English Language Assessment, part of the University of Cambridge, UK. He has qualified at the Business English Certificate (BEC) and Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT). He received a scholarship from the Regional English Language Office, U.S. Embassy, New Delhi to attend a course on ‘Integrating Critical Thinking Skills into the Exploration of Culture in EFL Setting’ in an online mode, conducted by the India-Bhutan Online Professional Development Institute, a US State Department funded programme implemented by World Learning and SIT Graduate Institute. As an author, he has three books to his credit and he has written and presented several research papers. His areas of interest include e-learning, computer assisted language learning (CALL), activity-based teaching, Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) and materials production.

*Translated stories from Panchatantra from English to Marathi. The stories will be published by M.S.Co. Publisher, Hyderabad in collaboration with the Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, India.

*Presented a paper titled ‘Relevance of a Digital Language Laboratory to the Teaching and Testing of Listening and Speaking Skills’ at the National Conference held on 29-30 January, 2009 at Charotar Institute of Technology, Changa, Anand, Gujarat.

*Presented a paper titled ‘Production of computer-based materials for the teaching and testing of Listening and Speaking skills in English’, at the International conference organised from 29th November to 1st December 2010 by (IndiaCALL), an affiliate of AsiaCALL, and hosted by H. M. Patel Institute of English Training and Research, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Anand, Gujarat, India.
