An augmented reality application, the personalized sidekick, Winner of BB Angel Hack Start Up Challenge, but how?
It all started 3-4 months ago in Bangalore, another of Angel Hacks Hackathons. Our team from Refocus Labs was given 24 hours to pitch an idea and make a prototype.
They built an app which opens the camera and shows places nearby like ATMs, restaurants, etc. It is similar to Nokia’s city lens except that this app is more contextual i.e. it checks time, weather, likes from Facebook and shows places accordingly. This is the Sidekick Mode. In the browser mode, you can tell the app what you want. There are 450 different categories to choose from!
Their challenge was to, now, enhance this app, publish it on a market and publicise it in 60 days. They launched it on BB App Store at a price of $3 in August and the app got 4000+ users in the first month itself!
The top 8 teams from Asia Pacific were selected for Hong Kong BB Jam and Refocus Labs represented India. They won not only the Start Up challenge but also the People Choice Award!
