COEP ZEST’13 begets Sporting prowess

Verve, virtuosity and victories, personified COEP’s annual sports festival, Zest’13. Over the last few days the city has witnessed a sporting sensation, meticulously organized and conducted by the students of COEP. Having surpassed a decade of sporting excellencies, this brainchild has evolved exceptional sports persons this year to cater to its theme “Target Rio.”

                                        

Since its onset on 20th January, with the torch bearing ceremony, Zest has brought about myriad moments of magnificence. The fest was also graced by the presence of Gulabrao Pol, Pune Police Commissioner, Ikram Khan, eminent hockey player and many more from 24th to 27th January. With over 8500 participants featuring in 27 events the festival was brimmed with dynamic competency and anticipation. Zest’13 also marked a noteworthy participation of over 1000 female participants, redefining the nation’s sports scenario.

                                        

After the sporting highs of the last weekend, wherein each day brought along bigger endeavors, the final day of Zest manifested a splendid valedictory ceremony to felicitate its winners. The defending champions MIT fell short of 616 points to retain its title, whereas COEP with 1151 points bore the palm. Cummins was the second runner’s up with 471 points followed by Modern and VIT with 310 & 222 points respectively.

                                        

Zest’13 has witnessed an enormous footfall of about 20000 people during its span of four days. This time it had stretched further and across 11 states to spread its vehemence. With all the flair, novelty, mettle and ebullience, Zest’13 has certainly lived up to its credentials of fostering young sports persons to pioneer a glorious sporting culture.

सीओईपीचा क्रीडा सोहळा – झेस्ट ची सांगता

एकूण विजेतेपदावर सीओईपीचे निर्विवादपणे नाव

जोश, उमेद , उत्साह आणि विजयी जल्लोष यांनी सीओईपीचा वार्षिक क्रीडा सोहळा- झेस्ट ‘१३ अगदी भरून गेला होता.मागील काही दिवसांत शहरातील नागरिकांना सीओईपीच्या विद्यार्थ्यांनी आयोजित केलेल्या या सामारोहाने एका खेळकर सहानुभूतीचे, काटेकोर नियोजनाचे आदर्श असे उदाहरण दिले. आपल्या खिलाडू प्राविण्याच्या दशकपूर्तीनंतर आपल्या यंदाच्या ‘टार्गेट रिओ ‘ या थीम प्रमाणे सीओईपीने अनेक असाधारण तयार करत आपले लक्ष्य गाठले आहे.

                                        

२० जानेवारी रोजी मशालीची ज्योत पेटवून चालू झालेल्या झेस्ट ने मागील काही दिवसांत भव्यदिव्यतेने नटलेल्या असंख्य क्षणांचा खजिना दिला. पुणे शहराचे पोलिस आयुक्त श्री. गुलाबराव पोळ , तसेच प्रख्यात हॉकीपटू इक्रम खान आणि अशा बऱ्याच ख्यातनाम व्यक्तींच्या भेटीने झेस्ट’१३ या सोहळ्याची अजूनच वाढली. ८५०० हून अधिक सहभागी स्पर्धक , २७ हून अधिक क्रीडा प्रकार यासह या सोहळ्याने चैतन्यपूर्ण लढत , कार्यक्षमता आणि अपेक्षापूर्ती यांचा काठ गाठला. त्याचबरोबर झेस्ट’१३ ने १००० हून अधिक महिला खेळाडूंच्या सहभागासह भारतीय क्रीडा रुपरेषेचे प्रमाण दिले.

                                        

यंदाच्या सोहळ्यात भरपूर अशा स्पेशल इव्हेंट ने गर्दी खेचली. वॉटर पोलो , शरीर सौष्ठव , फुटसल हि या कार्यक्रमाची प्रमुख आकर्षणे ठरली. तसेच क्रिकेट , वॉलीबॉल सारख्या ख्यात क्रीडाप्रकारांत असलेल्या सहभागी संघांची संख्या लक्ष्यात घेत या स्पर्धा अगोदरच सुरु करण्यात आल्या होत्या.

                                        

आणि दररोज आपल्या प्रयत्नात सुधारणा करत, एक एक उच्चांक गाठत असताना सरते शेवटी क्षण आला तो म्हणजे यंदाचा झेस्ट विजेतेपद कोण मिरवणार? हे ठरविण्याचा. प्रत्येक क्रीडाप्रकारातील विजेतेपद सर्वांगीण झेस्टच्या विजेतेपदाच्या जवळ नेत होते. शेवटच्या दिवशी या विजेतेपदाच्या मानकऱ्यांचा सन्मान सोहळा पार पडला. यंदा मात्र MIT झेस्ट विजेतेपदाचा चषक मिळवण्यासाठी प्रयत्न करत असताना जवळपास ६१६ गुणांनी मागे पडले तर सीओईपीने जवळपास प्रत्येक खेळात वर्चस्व दाखवत ११५१ गुणांसह झेस्ट विजेतेपदाच्या चषकावर निर्विवादपणे आपले नाव कोरले . त्यापाठोपाठ ४७१ गुणांसह कमिन्स महाविद्यालय दुसरा उपविजेता ठरला . त्यानंतर मॉडर्न आणि VIT अनुक्रमे ३१० आणि २२२ गुणांसह पुढील स्थानांवर राहिले.

                                        

झेस्ट २०१३ च्या या सोहळ्याने या चार दिवसांत जवळपास २०००० हून अधूक लोकांनी मैदानावर पूल टाकल्याची साक्ष दिली. यंदा झेस्त चा हा जल्लोष जवळपास ११ राज्यांतील खेळाडूंनी ‘ याची देही याची डोळा’ पाहिला . संपूर्ण प्रतिभा , नाविण्यता , धमक याचबरोबर खेळ संस्कृतीच्या एका शानदार सोहळ्याचे आयोजन करत झेस्ट १३ तरुण खेळाडूंना प्रोत्साहन देण्यासाठी निश्चित तऱ्हेने खरे उतरले आहे.

आगीच्या ज्वालेसह फडकला ZEST’१३ चा ध्वज 

सीओईपीच्या मैदानावर २० जानेवारी रोजी मशाल पेटवून येणाऱ्या २४ ते २७ जानेवारीला होणाऱ्या राष्ट्रीय क्रीडा सोहळा “झेस्ट” २०१३ ची शानदार सुरुवात झाली.सीओईपीने आपल्या झेस्टच्या मागील दहा वर्षाच्या इतिहासात आता एक वैशिष्ट्यपूर्ण उंची प्रस्थापित केली आहे.

                                        

सगळ्या औपचारीकतेसह सकाळी ठीक आठ वाजता सीओईपीच्या मैदानावर हि क्रीडा ज्योत पेटली. पुण्यातील पाच प्रतिष्ठित महाविद्यालयातील धावपटूंनी हि ज्योत मिरवत कार्यक्रमाची शान अजून वाढवली. यात सीओईपीसह सिद्धांत कॉलेज , कमिन्स अभियांत्रिकी महाविद्यालय तसेच VIIT यांचा समावेश होता. जिमखान्याचे उपाध्यक्ष डॉ. एस. पी. महाजन यांच्या हस्ते मशाल पेटली. महाविद्यालयाचे संचालक डॉ. अनिल सहस्त्रबुद्धे तसेच डॉ. एस. डी. आगाशे (अधिष्ठाता ,स्टुडंट अफेअर्स ) यांच्या उपस्थितीने सोहळ्याचा डौल वाढला.

                                        

महाविद्यालयाचे संचालक डॉ . अनिल सहस्त्रबुद्धे यांनी आपल्या विद्यार्थ्यांकडे मशालीची ज्योत सोपवत रविवारची ही रिले सुरु झाली. सीओईपीच्या विद्यार्थ्यांनी पुढे हि ज्योत सिद्धांत कॉलेजच्या विद्यार्थ्यांकडे जे एम रोडवर दिली . त्याचपाठोपाठ कमिन्स आणि VIIT महाविद्यालयांच्या धावपटूंनी हि ज्योत अनुक्रमे घोले रोड आणि एफ. सी . रोडवर मिरवली. २० सहभागी आणि संचालाकांसहित ५० निर्देशाकांसह झालेली हि मिरवणूक NISSAN ने प्रायोजित केली होती. ३.५ किलोमीटर पार करत पुन्हा ही ज्योत महाविद्यालयाच्या प्रांगणात येताच सर्वच जणांनी एकाच जल्लोष केला. जवळपास १५०० हून अधिक लोक या सोहळ्याचे साक्षीदार ठरल्याची वार्ता झेस्ट मिडिया प्रमुख लेनी अब्राहम आणि श्रेया पाटील यांनी दिली.

                                        

याचबरोबर असा अप्रतिम सोहळा पुण्यात प्रथमच झाल्याचेही त्यांनी नमूद केले. Sportaholic COEP bags home laurels

The COEP Athletics team won total 5 medals in University of Pune tournament comprising of 4 Bronze and 1 Gold medal. In the individuals category Sachin Shinde and Sarita Doiphode won Gold and Bronze respectively in the 400 m hurdles race. Sachin also bagged Bronze in the 400 m Running race.
The COEP boys and girls both teams bagged Bronze in 400*4 m relay making COEP proud again.

COEP Grandmasters rule again!

COEP bagged first position as a team in UoP Chess tournament with a total of 26 points all together. With a participation of a total of 200 students, Swarup Sawalkar finished 4th in thee tournament, thus representing Pune university at zonal level.
COEP Chess team also bagged Gold at MIT Summit and Lohit Krishnan who remained unbeaten was awarded as ‘Best player of the Tournament’.

सीओईपी एथलेटीक्स संघाने दाखवली विद्यापीठीय सामन्यांत चमक 

एकूण ५ पदकांची कमाई

नुकत्याच पार पडलेल्या युनिवर्सिटी सामन्यांमध्ये महाविद्यालयाच्या मुलांनी आपली चमक दाखवली . एकूण पाच पदकांची कमाई करत महाविद्यालयाच्या शिरपेचात मानाचा तुरा घातला . कमाई केलेल्या पदकांत १ सुवर्णपदक आणि ४ कांस्यपदक यांचा समावेश आहे. वैयक्तिक तसेच सांघिक प्रकारात बक्षिसे मिळवत विद्यार्थांनी आपले कसब दाखवून दिले.
वैयक्तिक सामन्यांत सचिन शिंदे याने ४०० मीटर हर्डल मध्ये सुवर्ण पदक मिळवले. तर याच विद्यार्थ्याने ४०० मीटर धावणे या प्रकारात कांस्यपदक मिळवले. मुलींमध्ये सरिता डोईफोडे हिने ४०० मीटर हर्डल प्रकारात कांस्यपदकाची कमाई केली .
तसेच सांघिक सामन्यांत ४*४०० रिले या स्पर्धेत मुलांच्या मध्ये सीओईपी च्या संघाने कांस्यपदक मिळवले . या संघात निलेश आढाव , सुरज वड्डेपाटील , मयूर चौरे , सचिन शिंदे यांचा समावेश होता तसेच याच प्रकारात मुलींच्या संघानेही कांस्यपदकाची कमाई केली . सरिता डोईफोडे , नेहा कावणे , नेहा कंठे , श्रुती पाठक , प्रिथा चंदा यांचा समावेश होता.

COEP Cricket team secured 4th position in Pune University Cricket Tournament

After almost 8 years an engineering college has made it to the semi-finals of Pune University Cricket Tournament. COEP takes great pride in achieving this unique feat.

COEP produced a clinical performance to knock MITCOE out of the tournament with a comfortable 8 wicket victory on the AISSMS grounds in the Pre-Quarter finals. Zaid Hetavkar smashed his way to a 45 ball unbeaten 53 while Omkar Pandey remained not out on 20 from 27 balls. Yash Dalvi utilised the lively pitch and scalped 2 wickets for 10 runs to rock the MITCOE innings.

He was ably supported by pace trio of Shakya Munghate (1/11), Aniket (1/12) and  Ajinkya Patil(1/19) who produced a lethal  spell to dismantle the MITCOEians.

In the quarter finals we saw COEP crush SKN college of commerce by 7 wickets . COEP lost the toss and was put to bowl . The paceman Omkar Pandey picked up 3 crucial wickets. Aniket and Yash took 1 and 2 wickets respectively.

Put to bat, COEP scored a  175-3 with Zaid Hetavkar with an amazing 53 off 31 balls once again leading the charge while Ameya Ghodke  40 off 23 balls supported at the top order. Ravindra also played a 27 run cameo.

In the semi-finals though COEP lost to SP college by 55 runs. The bowlers were successful in restricting the team to 175 runs .

But the same effort was needed in the batting department , which was in form throughout the tournament but failed to do so in semis. COEP was bowled out for 119 runs.

The momentum was lost due to run outs in the crucial stage of the match.

COEP secured 4^th position in Pune University which is till now the best position for any Engineering College in the last decade.

महिला बास्केटबॉल संघाचे रुपेरी यश

एम.आय.टी. समीट’१२ मध्ये रौप्य पदकाची कमाई

एम.आय.टी.,कोथरुड येथे झालेल्या समीट २०१२ या स्पर्धेत सी.ओ.ई.पी. च्या महिला बास्केटबॉल संघाने रौप्य पदक जिंकून उल्लेखनीय कामगिरी केली. चालू शैक्षणीक वर्षातील हे त्यांचे पहिलेच मोठे यश आहे.

अंतिम सामन्यात यजमानांबरोबर खेळताना संघाला पराभव पत्करून रौप्य पदकावर समाधान मानावे लागले. तत्पूर्वी साखळी फेरीत संघाने राजीव गांधी इंन्स्टीट्युट ऑफ टेक्नॉलॉजी,मुंबई या संघाला २४-१५ अशा फरकाने धूळ चारली. त्यानंतर मुकेश पटेल कॉलेज ऑफ इंजिनीयरींग, मुंबई या संघाचाही २३-८ असा धुव्वा उडवला. उपांत्य फेरीत व्ही.आय.टी.च्या संघाने जोरदार लढत दिली, परंतु शेवटी सी.ओ.ई.पी.च्या संघाने २५-२१ असा सामना आपल्याच खिशात घातला.

रौप्य पदक विजेता संघ असा – आकांक्षा पाटील, उत्कर्षा पाटील, साक्षी पारख, नेहा कंठे, दीपाली पाटील, नीधी खैनार, आकांक्षा नरोडे आणि किंजल ढोले. संघाला अमृता देशपांडे मॅडम आणि वाघ सर यांचे मार्गदर्शन लाभले.
