The Department was established in 1992, with Computer Engineering and Information Technology branches. It is one of the youngest departments at the institute. The undergraduate course in Computer Engineering was started in 1992 and Information Technology in 2000. Both these courses have an intake of 60 students each. There was a timely introduction of a postgraduate course in Computer Engineering in 1997 with an intake of 18 students and Information Security as a PG Course started in 2016 with an intake of 24 students. In 2018 Information Technology course closed and merged into Computer Engineering with the intake of 120. The department is a recognized research center under Savitribai Phule Pune University for its PPh.D.programme. The department boasts of a highly qualified faculty who carry out research according to the needs of society and then teach the students.
It promotes open-source software development and its students have been closely involved in such development projects. The students of the department have brought several laurels to the institute by actively participating and winning several technical competitions of international stature.
Needless to state, the placement records for the department have been nothing short of magnificent having students placed in renowned
companies in India as well as abroad.
