Applied Sciences is a bridge that connects pure science with engineering practices. It aims to provide a strong foundation for engineering students. The Department of Applied Sciences is one of the integral parts of the institute. The department offers multi-disciplinary courses in Chemistry, Biology, Advanced Engineering Materials, Polymer Technologies, Energy Materials, Professional Communication, Professional Ethics, Psychology, Environmental Science, Constitution of India, Intellectual Property Rights, Entrepreneurship Development, Critical Thinking, Liberal Learning Course, etc. The Department has well equipped laboratories- Chemistry Laboratory, Language Laboratory, Biology Laboratory (Microbiology, Nanobiotechnology, Molecular Biology and Animal Tissue Culture) and Environmental Science Research Laboratory. These laboratories enable faculty and students to employ fundamental principles, create innovative solutions which are then handed off to engineering disciplines to be refined, enhanced and used to address important problems.
The department has started an activity called Gramodyog to help existing rural based industries and create entrepreneurship among students from village background. We encourage them to start their own ventures with appropriate technology under the umbrella of NSS and Unnat Bharat Yojana.
The department is rapidly expanding in consultancy services. The departmental faculty and laboratory staff work for testing of industrial samples such as cement, polymers, water etc. Some faculty also offer consultancy for various industrial and government projects in the field of Analytical Instrumentation, drug design, Environmental Impact Assessment and Bio fertilizers and Human resources related issues.
The department is a recognized research centre in Chemistry and Environmental Science affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University. The total number of candidates currently registered for Ph.D. is 9.
The department caters to the all round development and academic needs of students by providing guidance and psychological counseling sessions, language testing services. Apart from this, lectures and seminars are conducted on personality development, stress management, study skills and life planning for students as well as faculty.
The department believes in contributing to the image of COEP with hard work and sincerity.
