Compared to the 2015 edition of the SAE BAJA which is organized by the Mahindra Group each year, the competition this year was substantially more challenging. Right from the technical scrutiny to the various events that tested the buggies and the students that made them, BAJA 2016 proved to be the toughest competition compared to the last eight editions of the same.
There were 395 colleges/teams that attended the Virtual BAJA and 179 of them were selected for the main event. Only 144 buggies made it to the track after completing fabrication and clearing college level technical inspection. At the on-site scrutiny 18 vehicles were disqualified and hence there were 126 spots at the final race grid.
COEP has been participating since the event BAJA SAE started in India in 2007, and making its mark since then by wining several awards in different categories. Prof. D. N. Malkhede is the faculty advisor for Team BAJA. Of the nine competitions held so far in as many years, COEP has created a record of most wins of overall Championship by wining it for the 4th time this year. A feat that has set in a record at SAE BAJA India competition.
