सीओईपीच्या स्पंदन ग्रुपची वृद्धाश्रमास भेट आजींना दिल्या नववर्षाच्या शुभेच्छा

आजी नातवासाठी बरच काही असते, सुंदर गोष्टींचा खजाना असते, हट्ट पुरवणारी सखी असते आणि मांडीवर घेऊन थोपटणारी माय देखील असते.

आपल्या आयुष्यात आजी खूप भूमिका पार पडत असते. पण आजीला देखील आपल्या नातवंडांना कुशीत घेणे खूपसुख देते. पण हे भाग्य सगळ्यांनाच मिळते असे नाही . काहींना वृद्धाश्रमात आसरा घ्यावा लागतो. अशा काही आजींना आपण त्यांचे नात-नातवंडे बनून आनंद नक्कीच देऊ शकतो. हाच हेतू समोर ठेवून आणि नवीन वर्षाचे औचित्य साधून सीओईपीच्या स्पंदन ग्रुपमधील मुलामुलींचा एक चमू आनंदाचा ढीग घेऊन गुरुवार पेठेतील महिला वृद्धाश्रमास भेट देऊन आला.

त्यांना सगळ्यांना एकत्र करून , त्यांच्याशी गप्पा साधून, विविध खेळांतून त्यांचे मनोरंजन केले . शिल्पा माळगे आणि शारदा जाधव यांनी आपल्या सुरेल सुरांनी त्यांना मंत्रमुग्ध केले . यावर आजींनाही आपले गाणे म्हणून दाखवण्याचा मोह आवरता आला नाही. गाणी म्हणणाऱ्या आणि विविध म्हणी ओळखून दाखवणाऱ्या आजींना या नातवंडांनी गिफ्ट्स सुद्धा दिली . काही आजींनी कोडी विचारून सगळ्यांना बुचकळ्यात देखील टाकले . एका चक्रमादित्य राजाचा चक्रमपणा मुलांनी नाटकाद्वारे दाखवला , आणि सगळे पोट धरून हसू लागले. आजींना मुलांनी विनोद सांगितले.यानंतर आजीने डोक्यावरून हात फिरवून आशीर्वाद दिल्यावर मन भरून आले. काही तरी मिळाल्याचे समाधान लाभले. सगळ्यांना नववर्षाच्या शुभेछ्या देत आणि त्याचबरोबर स्वतः बनवलेली शुभेच्छापत्र देत सगळ्यांनी निरोप घेतला . पण निरोप घेताना आजींचा आशीर्वाद घ्यायला मुले विसरली नाहीत . परत येताना आजींना देखील गहीवरून आले. यानंतर देखील स्पंदन ग्रुप अशीच समाजोपयोगी कामे करत राहील यात शंका नाही. सगळ्यांच्या चेहऱ्यावर विलसणारा आनंद हीच केलेल्या कष्टाची मिळकत असे मत शलाका जाधव हिने दिले.

बोट क्लबच्या इतिहसात नोंदवला गेला पहिला वॉटर कॅम्प

दिनांक २० आणि २१ ऑक्टोबर रोजी यंदा बोट क्लब तर्फ़े प्रथमच वॉटर कॅम्प आयोजित करण्यात आला होता.स्विम टेस्ट यशस्विरीत्या पूर्ण केलेल्यांबरोबरच ती न करता आलेल्यांना सुद्धा यामुळे कयाकिंग च्या नावा वल्हवण्याची सुवर्णसंधी मिळली.त्यामुळे सर्वांसाठीच हा एक उत्तम आणि अविस्मरणीय अनुभव होता. यामागे रेगाटा म्हणजे काय याची कल्पना यावी आणि कयाकिंगची ऒळख व्हावी असा बोट क्लबचा उद्देश होता.ज्यांनी या वॉटर कॅम्पमध्ये सहभाग घेतला त्यांच्या मते तर वेगाने कयाकिंग करताना पाण्याला कापत जाण्याचा अनुभव अतिशय रोमांचकारी आणि अंगावर शहारे आणणारा होता.बोट क्लबने यावर्षी नव्यानेच सुरु केलेला वॉटर कॅम्पचा हा उपक्रम सर्वांनाच आवडला.

बोट क्लब वर साजरी झाली खंडेनवमी

दिनांक २३ ऑक्टोबर २०१२ रोजी खंडेनवमी निमित्त बोट क्लब येथे विविध स्पर्धांचे आयोजन करण्यात आले होते. यामध्ये मुलींसाठी दोरीच्या उड्या आणि मुलांसाठी डिप्स, पुलप्स, पुशप्स, सहस्रजोर, पॉवर सर्कीट इ. स्पर्धा घेण्यात आल्या. या स्पर्धांचे संयोजन तृतीय वर्ष अभियांत्रिकीच्या विद्यार्थ्यांनी केले होते. आकाश सुरनर या विद्यार्थ्याने या स्पर्धांमध्ये उत्स्फूर्त सहभाग नोंदवुन भरपूर बक्षिसे पटकावली.

COEP च्या  स्पंदन ह्या मंडळातर्फे विसर्जन मिरवणुकीत पर्यावरण जनजागृतीचे काम करण्यात आले . इतर मुले मिरवणुकीत नाचत असताना डी जे च्या तालावर थिरकत असताना अभियांत्रिकी महाविद्यालयातील काही विद्यार्थ्यांचा ग्रुप विसर्जन मिरवणुकीत जनजागृतीचे काम करत होता . प्रत्येकाच्या चेहऱ्यावर वेगळाच आनंद विलसत होता.

                    

सी ओ ई पी मध्ये आर्या रास : केतकी माटेगावकर ने लावली हजेरी

नवरात्र म्हणाली कि सगळ्यांना वेध लागतात ते दांडिया आणि गरब्याचे. त्यात महाविद्यालयीन मुले कशी मागे राहणार? नवरात्रीचे औचित्य साधून दरवर्षी सी ओ ई पी चे विद्यार्थी आर्या रास हा कार्यक्रम साजरा करतात. यंदाही या उत्सवाची जोरदार सुरुवात झाली आहे. हे नऊ दिवस संध्याकाळच्या वेळेला मुले मुली विविध गाण्याच्या तालावर रास दांडिया खेळत आहेत . घरापासून दूर राहूनही आपले विविध सन उत्सव साजरे करणे हि तर तरुण तरुणींची ओळख आहे.

यंदा विविध कार्यक्रमांनी आर्या रास खुलून आला आहे. आर्या रास चे उद्घाटन पुणे महानगर पालिकेच्या महापौर वैशाली बनकर यांच्या हस्ते झाले. पहिल्या दिवशी त्यांनी दांडिया खेळून कार्यक्रमास सुरुवात केली. शाळा आणि काकस्पर्श या चित्रपटांमधून आपल्या अभिनयाची जादू दाखवणारी आणि इतक्या कमी वयात प्रसिद्धीस आलेली केतकी माटेगावकर प्रमुख आकर्षण ठरली. त्यामुळे कार्यक्रमाल अधिकच रंगीत स्वरूप प्राप्त झाले. तिच्या वडिलांसोबत १८ ऑक्टोबरला तिने कार्यक्रमास हजेरी लावली.

                    रोजच्या धकाधकीच्या जीवनात सण उत्सव हाच विरंगुळा असतात , घरापासून दूर राहूनही आपले सण उत्सव साजरे करताना महाविद्यालय हेदेखील आपले एक कुटुंबच आहे अशी भावना मजबूत होते, अशीभावना संदेश जयरंगे द्वितीय वर्ष उत्पादन अभियांत्रिकी याने व्यक्त केली . तसेच, दिवसभर महाविद्यालय करून सायंकाळी आनंद व्यक्त करायला मिळतो हि बाबच आनंदाची आहे आणि अभ्यास करताना इतर बाबीही महत्वाच्या आहेत ज्यांचा संबध मनाशी आहे ,त्या अशा एकत्रित कार्यक्रमामुळे दृढ होत आहेत असे मत शिवम स्वामी याने दिले. आर्या रास – द इथनो कार्निवल हा कार्यक्रम नवरात्रीचे संपूर्ण दिवस महाविद्यालयाच्या मैदानावर सायंकाळी ६ ते १० या वेळेत आयोजित केला होता . कार्यक्रमाचे संपूर्ण आयोजनात विद्यार्थ्यांनी खूप मोठा सहभाग दर्शविला आहे.

इग्नायटेड इनोव्हेटर्स ऑफ इंडियाचे उद्घाटन

I2I (इग्नायटेड युनोव्हेटर्स ऑफ इंडिया)चा उद्घाटन समारंभ दिनांक ३ ऑक्टोबर २०१२ रोजी संपन्न झाला. दरवर्षीप्रमाणे यावर्षीही सी.ओ.ई.पी.च्या BHAU Institute ने EATON च्या सहयागाने विद्यार्थांसाठी I2I ही स्पर्धा आयोजित केली आहे असे या कार्यक्रमात जाहीर केले. यानिमित्ताने समाजाला काही तरी द्यावे या उद्देशाने विद्यार्थ्यांनी आपले प्रकल्प सादर करावेत असे आवाहन करण्यात आले. तंत्रज्ञान,पर्यावरण,शेती,शिक्षण आणि 3H(Health, Hunger, Humanity)या पाच क्षेत्रांपैकी कुठल्याही क्षेत्रात विद्यार्थी प्रकल्प करू शकतील आणि प्रत्येक क्षेत्रातील एक उत्कृष्ट प्रकल्प निवडून त्याला गौरविण्यात येईल असेही यावेळी जाहीर करण्यात आले.
“सर्वच क्षेत्रात पुढे असताना सामाजिक कार्यात आम्ही नाही तर कोण पुढे येणार” असे उद्गार महाविद्यालयाचे संचालक डॉ .अनिल सहस्रबुद्धे यांनी कार्यक्रमाच्या उद्घाटन प्रसंगी काढले. तर “यावर्षी आम्ही हा प्रयत्न शिखरावर नेणार यात काही शंकाच नाही” असे मत इनामदार सर यांनी मांडले. या प्रसंगी EATON चे HR Head नरेंद्र नायर, तसेच विश्वनाथन कृष्णमूर्ती उपस्थित होते. ‘मी पाहिले, मी जबाबदारी घेतली आणि मी सोडवलं’ असे ब्रीदवाक्य असणाऱ्या I2I च्या प्रयत्नात सर्वांनी सहभागी व्हावे असे आवाहन करण्यात आले.

Philosophy club तर्फे आयोजित व्याख्यानमाला – प्रज्वलित मने

दि.२०ऑक्टोबर: महाविद्यालयातील विद्यार्थ्यांना प्रेरणा मिळावी या हेतूने Philosophy Club ने ‘प्रज्वलित मने’ हा कार्यक्रम आयोजित केला होता.
कार्यक्रमात दोन वक्त्यांनी आपले विचार मांडलेत. सुरुवातीला रामकृष्ण मठाचे स्वामी सुविद्नेयानंद यांनी स्वामी विवेकानंदांचे जीवन आणि त्यांचे विचार प्रभावीपणे मांडलेत. तरुणांनी आयुष्याकडे सकारात्मकतेने आणि आत्मविश्वासाने बघावे यावर त्यांचा भर होता. अनेक गोष्टी आणि उदाहरणे देऊन त्यांनी आपले विचार मार्मिक पद्धतीने मांडले.
त्यानंतर National Blind Association चे संचालक आणि Paralympics चे National Champion श्री.भावेश भाटिया यांनी आपल्या आयुष्यात आपण अंधपणावर मात करत आणि खडतर परिस्थितीत कशा पद्धतीने जिद्दीने मार्ग काढला याची अत्यंत प्रेरणादायी कथा सांगितली. श्री.भाटिया यांनी स्वत: व त्यांच्या संस्थेच्या अंध मुलांनी बनविलेल्या अप्रतिम अशा मेणबत्त्यांचे प्रदर्शनही भरविले होते. त्यामधील कलात्मकता खरंच थक्क करणारी होती.
कार्यक्रमानंतर उपस्थितांनी स्वामी सुविद्नेयानान्द् व श्री.भावेश भाटिया यांना अनेक प्रश्न विचारले आणि दोघांनीही त्याला समर्पक उत्तरे देऊन त्यांच्या शंकांचे निरसन केले.

Indomitable COEPians forming mosaics of Rubik’s Cube one after the other

Gearing up for the Guinness World Record scheduled on 4th November 2012, COEPians resorted to mosaics which displayed their sheer skills and mastery over the cube. The idea of a mosaic portrait of former president APJ Abdul Kalam was a challenging one for the Akshat team when they first put it on paper, but the determined COEPians ensured to make the almost impossible vision possible. A group of students of COEP made use of 216 Rubik’s cubes to create it. The assembly of the 12X18 portrait took seven days and the designing took two days.

Akshat team stated that getting the combination right was a difficult task as there were only six colours to work with. They took a picture of APJ Abdul Kalam from the internet and altered it on the computer. The main assembly was another challenge as the arrangement on the computer and actual execution was different.

The success of their first mosaic accomplishment made the COEPians crave for more. Following the APJ mosaic was another one, made in respect of Steve Jobs, co-founder and ex-chairman of Apple Inc. The mosaic was on display on the first day of mindspark. Second day of mindspark saw another innovative piece created by the Akshat team of the theme of mindspark, evolution.

It was the overall group work and the encouragement of their professors, PP Rege, Prof PR Dhamangaonkar and their principal AD Sahasrabudhe that they managed to pull the task off. All the mosaics reflected the ability, concentration and efficiency of COEPians.

Philosophy towards life

Our Philosophy club arranged a program on 20th October 2012, Saturday. Swami Suvidneyanandaji from Ramkrishna math, Pune, acquainted us regarding the importance of Swami Vivekanand’s philosophy towards our life. Another speaker in the same program was Mr. Bhavesh Bhatia who is actually physically challenged (with blindness), however, a very successful entrepreneur. He has been successful in employing over about a sixty blind people in his candle making factory at Mahabaleshwar. So he stands out as a real example of a person, demonstrating how the practice of the philosophy can help one overcome the routine obstructions of life. The organizers were sure that both these personalities will help us introspect ourselves. The program took place from 11am to 1pm in Room No. 6 (Seminar Hall 2).

अभियांत्रिकीचे विद्यार्थी म्हणजे अभ्यासू, वेळ नसणारे, तांत्रिक आणि हुशार अशीच प्रतिमा सगळ्यांच्या मनात असते , परंतु अभियांत्रिकी महाविद्यालय, पुणे (COEP) येथे यात अजून पैलू जोडले आहेत. अभियांत्रिकीचा विद्यार्थी व्यावसायिक म्हणून जितके नाव कमावेल तितकेच त्याने “माणूस “ म्हणूनही नाव कमवायला हवे . आणि हे COEP ने करून दाखविले आहे. सी ओ ई पी च्या BHAU institute ने EATON च्या सहयोगाने यावर्षीही I2I हि स्पर्धा विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी आयोजित केली आहे.

सी.ओ.ई.पी. वादविवाद मंडळाचे भरघोस यश

दि. ३० सप्टेंबर २०१२ रोजी दिव्य जीवन संघातर्फे राज्यस्तरीय वक्तृत्व स्पर्धा आयोजीत केली होती. यंदाचे हे स्पर्धेचे ८वे वर्ष होते. या स्पर्धेत सी.ओ.ई.पी.च्या विद्यार्थ्यांनी भरघोस यश संपादन करत पाच पैकी चार बक्षीसे पटकावली. विजेत्या स्पर्धकांची नावे पुढीलप्रमाणेः

स्पर्धचे पारितोषिक वितरण सुप्रसिद्ध हास्यकलाकार व नाट्यसमीक्षक श्री. बंडा जोशी यांच्या शुभहस्ते झाले. संस्थेचे अध्यक्ष श्री.नाईक या समारंभास उपस्थित होते. यशस्वी विद्यार्थांचे सी.ओ.ई.पी.चे सर्वेसर्वा डॉ. सहस्त्रबुद्धे सर व वादविवाद मंडळाचे अधिष्ठाता श्री. धामणगावकर सर यांनी अभिनंदन केले.

Workshop conducted by Robot Study Circle : Pratham

2nd September: The RSC organized a 2day workshop exclusively for first year students to introduce them to Robotics. A lecture series covering Electronic Boards, Mechanical working and assembling and also computer programming was conducted where students from final year of different branches delivered them.

About 20 teams each consisting of 3 members participated in the workshop. The team members were enlightened on the nuances of robo-making.

“The best part of the workshop was to see our bots working” said Tejas Ruikar, a first year IT student.

The workshop concluded with a quiz which tested the students on the entire content of the session.

Prize Distribution Ceremony of IGNITED INNOVATORS OF INDIA 2011-12

1^st March 2012: Ignited Innovators of India is a movement organized by BHAU institute of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Leadership [BIEL] in association with COEP. It aspires to reach every student in India to begin with and provide them with an opportunity to be social entrepreneurs and bring about small but significant changes in the world around them.

As a part of this movement, “Social entrepreneur” contest was organized wherein students from various institutes state wide were encouraged to implement social entrepreneurship projects.

The movement got 510 project proposals from all over Maharashtra out of which 211 projects including more than 1050 students were selected and funded with individual group mentorship from Eaton employees. Further 85 projects were shortlisted from Eaton for the second round.

The vision for the projects was to develop mainstream entrepreneurs with a will to generate employment and money, as well as benefit the society. I2I ambassadors were formed in every college campus who got an opportunity to network with successful social entrepreneurs, gain leadership and volunteer experiences and work intimately with local community. The motto of I²India movement ‘I see, I own, I solve’ inspired youth to take responsibility and ‘be’ the change.

The award function to honour the efforts of these contestants was conducted on 1^st March 2012 at 5:30 pm in the COEP auditorium in the presence of Dr Vijay Bhatkar, best known as the architect of PARAM ² supercomputers, Mr Raja Kochar, MD Eaton Corporation, Dr Anil Sahasrabudhe, Director College of Engineering, Pune, Mr Sanjay Inamdar, Cofounder Bhau institute. The ceremony was followed by the Award winning show of Firodia Karandak presented by College Of Engineering, Pune.

Virasat 2012

27th July, 2012: SPIC-MACAY in association with COEP organized an event at the COEP Auditorium to mark the inauguration of VIRASAT series.
SPIC-MACAY is an NGO established by Padmashri Dr. Kiran Seth in 1977 at IIT Delhi, which seeks to conserve and promote an awareness of our rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry amongst the youth of this country through classical arts.
The event was enlivened by the performances of two prominent artists, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma (Santoor) and Pt. Vijay Ghate (Tabla).It was spectacled by around 700 people, mainly school students and teachers, COEP faculty members along with Pt. Suresh Talwalkar and Pt. Ramdas Palsule. The recital was absolutely mesmerizing and highly praised by all. It was followed by an interactive session conducted by Pt. Shivkumar Sharma.

SPIC-MACAY have been organising many such events all over India to fulfil their objectives and are looking for volunteers from COEP to be a part of this incredible society.

सलील कुलकर्णींशी COEP च्या मुलांनी मारल्या मनमुराद गप्पा

ऑगस्ट ३: प्रसिद्ध गायक व संगीतकार ‘सलील कुलकर्णी’ यांच्या प्रकट मुलाखतीच्या कार्यक्रमाने ‘Ignited Minds Movement ‘चा ‘वेगळ्या वाटेने जाताना…’ हा कार्यक्रम सी.ओ.ई.पी. सभागृहात यशस्वीरीत्या पार पडला.

सलीलजींचे सभागृहातl आगमन होताच प्रेक्षागृह टाळ्यांच्या कडकडाटाने गरजून गेले. कार्यक्रमाचे स्वरूप जरी प्रकट मुलाखतीचे असले तरी त्याला रंग मात्र सुरेल मैफिलीचा आला होता. हल्लीच्या तरुणाईची समाजाप्रतीची असलेली संवेदनशीलता या विषयावर जितक्या गंभीरपणे सालीलजींनी भाष्य केले, तितक्याच मिस्कीलपणे तरुणाईचा जिव्हाळ्याचा विषय म्हणजेच ‘प्रेम’ यावरही आपले मत मांडले. आपल्या विचारांना वाट मोकळी करून देताना सलीलजींचा विशेष भर आजच्या तरुण पिढीवर होता. कार्यक्रमाप्रसंगी त्यांच्यातील गायक व संगीतकार तर पाहायला मिळालाच, पण त्यांच्यातील समाजाविषयी संवेदनशील माणुसही या प्रसंगी विद्यार्थ्यांना अगदी जवळून अनुभवता आला. त्यांच्या अनेक सुरेल गाण्यांनी रसिकांना मंत्रमुग्ध केले. त्यांच्या ‘देते कोण? देते कोण?…’,'डिपाडी डिपांग…’ सारख्या गाण्यांनी रसिक प्रेक्षकांच्या टाळ्यांची दाद तर मिळवलीच, त्याच बरोबर ‘मी आहे राम मित्र माझा श्याम…’ सारख्या गाण्यांनी त्यांना अंतर्मुखही केले.

कार्यक्रमाप्रसंगी श्री. वाग्गे सर यांनी ‘Ignited minds movement’च्या परंपरेप्रमाणे झाडाचे रोप देऊन आलेले मान्यवर सलील कुलकर्णी यांचा सत्कार व स्वागत केले. विद्यार्थ्यांच्या मिळालेल्या उल्लेखनीय प्रतिसादामुळे यापुढे असेच दर्जेदार कार्यक्रम विद्यार्थ्यांच्या भेटीस आणण्याचे आवाहन ‘Ignited minds movement ‘ परिवाराने अभिजातशी बोलताना दिले.

Joy of Giving Week Celebration

“Joy of giving week” is a festival of giving celebrated all over India. It brings all Indians to celebrate “Giving”. At college level, NSS has decided to celebrate “Joy of giving week”, which is from 2nd October to 8th October (A week starting from ‘Gandhi Jayanti’). This program will be organized under the guidance of NSS faculty advisor Prof. Khatavkar.

NSS team has decided to collect old newspapers from college and hostel campus from the faculties, staff members and students. The NSS volunteers will go to the respective places to collect such old newspapers during this week. After collecting, all newspapers will be donated to a needy trust which prepares paper bags from it.NSS team is looking forward for everyone’s co-operation for this noble cause and hopes that everyone will enjoy the joy of giving.

ब्लड डोनेशन कँप उत्साहात संपन्न

दरवषीप्रमाणे ह्यावषी स्पंदन ग्रुप व ससुन हॉस्पटल यांच्या संयुक्त विद्यमानाने दि २४ ऑगस्ट रोजी ब्लड डोनेशन कँप आयोजित करण्यात आला होता.कॅंपचे स्थळ मेन बिल्डिंग होते.कायक्रमाचे उद्घाटन आदरणीय डायरेक्टर डॉ.अनिल सहस्रबुद्धे यांच्या हस्ते सकाळी ९. ३० च्या सुमारास झाले.उद्घाटनप्रसंगी डॉ.अल्का देशमुख,डॉ.जयंत खेर,डॉ.रांजेकर इतर प्राध्यापक व अनेक विद्याथी् उपस्थित होते. रक्तदात्या व्यक्तिचे वय १८वषापेक्षा जास्त व वजन ५० किलोपेक्षा जास्त असावे ह्या अटी होत्या.रक्तदान करणा-या व्यक्तिंसाठी खास बॅजेस देण्यात आले.ह्या कँपला विद्याथी् व प्राध्यापक यांचा भरघोस प्रतिसाद मिळाला.एकुण २४९ व्यक्तिंनी रक्तदान केले.

National conference on “Energy & Sustainable Development”

The conference took place on the 28th and 29th February 2012.

Guest of Honor at the Inaugural ceremony of the conference was Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Nuclear Scientist & Former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, India.

The participants were enthusiastic and the conference saw a majority of active listeners working towards the aim of sustainable development.

Guest of Honor at the Valedictory Session of the conference was Dr. U. N. Gaitonde, Professor, IIT Bombay.

Aadharwad, a talk by Sindhutai Sapkal

Ignited Minds’ Movement group, (COEP Students) in association with the Non Teaching staff of COEP conducted the programm “Aadharwad”, a talk by Shindhutai Sapkal on Tuesday 3^rd April 2012 at the college auditorium.

A motivational talk, sharing the life experience was delivered by the great social worker Sindhutai Sapkal on the occasion.

COEP, for the very first time have introduced the “COEP Gaurav Award” which will be presented every year to great people contributing toward the Upliftment of the society. Sindhutai was honoured with this award on the occasion.

Also the appeal made by Sindhutai Sapkal for liberal donations for her social organization “Sanmati Balniketan Sanstha” was responded very well by the COEPians and a amount of around Rs. 1.25 Lakhs was collected and donated to “Sanmati Balniketan Sanstha”.

Dr. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Director, COEP, Prof. Anirudh Deshpande, along with the other college officials, students & staff were present at the occasion.

A mosaic portrait of former president APJ Abdul Kalam created using Rubik’s Cube

The idea was a challenging one when they first put it on paper, but their sheer determination has ensured that it will become a reality. A group of ten students of the College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP) have made use of 216 Rubik’s Cubes to create a mosaic portrait of former president APJ Abdul Kalam. The assembly of the 12X18 portrait took them seven days and the designing took two days. Sachin Jadhav, a second-year mechanical engineering student and his friend Pramod Konale, a second-year electrical engineering student, designed the image while their friends, members of the in-house college group AKSHAT, helped them assemble it.

“We were surfing the Internet when we came across mosaic paintings of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley and the thought struck us that we needed an Indian who could be represented like that on the international stage. And we found the same in former president Abdul Kalam.” said Jadhav.

Jadhav says, “We took a picture of Kalam from the Internet and started working on the image using paintbrush. First, we converted the image into a mosaic one and then started working on it using Rubik’s Cube. Once the image was ready, we had to change the settings to make the picture more definite and visible.”

“The thing about using the Rubik’s Cube is that there are only six colours to work with. Getting the combination right was difficult. The main assembly was another challenge because what we did on the computer and the actual execution was different,” he said. It was with the help of eight other members of the group and the encouragement of their professors, PP Rege, Prof PR Dhamangaonkar and their principal AD Sahasrabudhe that they managed to pull the task off, he added.

Jadhav said both he and Konale were inspired by Kalam’s works. “We hope people will like what we have made to pay a small tribute to his achievements.”

AKSHAT – Making Of the Unbeatable!

The clatter of more than a thousand Rubik’s cubes twisting in unison has been resounding in COEP for a long time now as the college paves way for its 3^rdGuinness World Record, Akshat, aiming for maximum number of people solving the cube in record time. The event came out as a brainchild of a fellow COEPian, Sachin Jadhav.

The event, scheduled for 1^st November had a grand inauguration on 30^th March, in an event graced by Director Dr. A.D. Sahasrabudhe, Dr. P.P. Rege and prof. PR. Dhamangaonkar who have immensely supported the event right from its inception.

The original World record is currently bossed by IIT Bombay with a total 937 people solving the cube simultaneously. “The expected number of participants for this event is 2,000. Though approximately 1600 students have already enrolled, the official registration process will be commencing soon during which the number is likely to augment,” said Ankush Tale (Session Organiser & Guinness Correspondent). With our huge strength, we intend to surpass the current record by an exceptional margin.

The Akshat team conducted three Rubik’s cube solving and speed cubing sessions for the F.Y.B.Tech students in the academic complex on the 11^th ,12^th and 25^th August respectively, for an hour each with a few more sessions ready down the line open for the entire COEP fraternity.

This record will reflect the ability, concentration and efficiency of the students to solve the Rubik’s cube in a considerably short time period, ensuring another landmark in COEP’s eloquent history.
