Much Ado About Placements

By Sejal Mathur

This year, much unlike preceding years, COEP witnessed the incoming of a staggering 111 companies at its campus. Firms like Google and two other Japanese organisations posed lucrative offers as high as 40 lakhs for the candidates with D.E.Shaw having selected two students for a package of Rs.16.3 lakhs.
Amid the Undergraduate section, a significant 76 out of 83 students got selected from Computer Department equaling a total of 91%. The second on the list stood ENTC Department, having 69 out of a total of 83 pupils getting placed, accounting for 81% placement. Next was IT Department, with 52 from 69 getting selected i.e.75% followed by Mechanical Department holding 68% placement statistics. Ensuing on the list were Civil and Instrumentation branches, both totaling to 67% selection of students. Subsequently, Metallurgy Department held 61% placements this time around with Electrical and Production branches corresponding to 59 and 56% respectively.
On the whole, a sizeable 477 number of students out of total 674 students from the UG section have succeeded at the placement scenario summing up to 71% placements. Despite the evident placement gloom having led to a noticeable slump in recruitments this year, COEP has stood its stance fairly well.
