Mechanical Centenary Celebrations

Embarking in its 100th year, the Department of Mechanical Engineering inaugurated its Centenary celebrations on 9th October in an eloquent event graced by the presence of Padmashree Smt. Lila Poonawalla as the Chief Guest and Prof. S.G.Dhande as the guest of honour. The celebrations initiated by unveiling the Centenary Year plaque by the Chief guest amidst the presence of Director Dr. Sahasrabudhhe, Prof. Sapali, Mr. Mirashi(President, Alumni Association) among others.

The event later proceeded in the COEP auditorium in the presence of the distinguished faculty, alumni and students of the department by “Sarasvati Vandan”. This was followed by a brief report by Prof. Sapali, Head, Mechanical Engineering Department, covering the details of the progress of the department over a span of 100 years highlighting its distinguished professors, alumni, research activities, patents and the laboratories available. Following this was a brief address by our Dr. Sahasrabudhe, Mr.Mirashi and Prof. B.B. Ahuja who congratulated everybody and expressed their belief they have in the Department.

Mrs. Poonawalla then launched the Centenary logo, website, brochure and an ensemble consisting of articles by the student of the department spanning over 100 years, amidst the cheering voices of the applauding and proud audience in the auditorium. Mrs. Poonawalla then addressed the audience expressing her joy and encouraged everybody to stretch their limits and excel in every facet of life. Following this was a brief talk by Mrs. Varasntha Ramaswamy, also an alumnus of 1967 batch, wherein she spoke about her path breaking, yet challenging work in armament engineering.

This was followed by the felicitation of the distinguished alumni and non-teaching staff of the Department by the Chief Guest. The event finally concluded by a vote of thanks presented by Prof. S. S. Pardeshi. The entire Department has been filled with new vibes of energy and is all geared up for celebrating its Centenary year.
